Anushka Kathak Dance Academy is an institute dedicated to the Lucknow Gharana of Kathak, following the artistic legacy of the late Pt. Arjun Mishra. Under the direction of Anushka, an ICCR scholar, acclaimed Kathak dancer, and television personality from Sri Lanka, the academy has flourished. In 2019, Anushka relocated to Tokyo, where she continues to uphold this rich tradition by teaching Kathak to Japanese students and preparing them for performances.

It’s been a great honor to participate for the second consecutive time in the Namaste India Festival.We present traditional Kathak dance featuring “Chaturanga” which consists of poerty, sargam, tarana, and tablabols, and was specially choreographed by veteran artist Sanjukta Sinha. The performers are Anushka and Japanese Kathak dancers Maiko and Yayoi. Academy students Haru, Yo, Sarina, and Fumi will also perform. |

MIYABI KATHAK DANCE ACADEMY was founded in 2006 in Tokyo, by Ms. Masako Satou, disciple of late Pt. Birju Maharaj, started to learn kathak in 1995 in New Delhi at Kathak kendra, then kalashram. She was an ICCR scolar, received an ICCR Alumni award in 2023. Many multinational students enjoy to learn Indian dance under her and perform at many festivals. Currently she teaches Indian dance at Kojimachi studio, Toyo University, Tsudanuma and Jiyuugaoka culture.

DB2 was made up in 2014 as a Bollywood dance group by dancers who learned Bollywood dance in India. Almost all of the members have experience living and dancing in India, and also having worked or studied there. The group is made up of adults and students who enjoy Bollywood dance.

Utaha Komaki is a 13-year-old Bharatanatyam dancer. She is a disciple of Guru Rama Vaidyanathan at Ganesa Natyalaya in Delhi. After only 1 year and 9 months of training, she made her solo debut, Arangetram, at the age of 12. Currently, she continues to hone her skills in India while expanding her opportunities. Through Bharatanatyam, she aspires to bridge Japan and India and share the beauty of this art form with the world.
